Major upgrades boost student experience

As the weather starts to warm up, students at Avondale University are enjoying a much more comfortable environment in the campus cafeteria, thanks to major upgrades completed by the Division Property Trust.

The cafeteria, along with the Watson Hall men’s residence, were identified as urgent priorities due to their deteriorated condition. Together, the projects represented an investment of more than $A1.8 million, with $1,017,000 spent on the cafeteria and $798,000 on Watson Hall. The renovations were completed about 18 months ago.

The cafeteria building was completely stripped out and rebuilt with a larger dining room, folding glass doors, outdoor dining area, a meeting room, office and modern bathrooms. For the first time ever, the building now features central air conditioning.

“The environment in the café was pretty oppressive in summer—just not a pleasant place to be in,” said Lorin Bradford, manager of the Division Property Trust. “Now it’s a much more comfortable and inviting space for students to meet and eat.”

Avondale’s chief students and engagement officer, Kalvin Dever, said the renovations have transformed one of the most important social spaces on campus.

“Thanks to the Division Property Trust, the cafeteria was completely renovated with new flooring and an adjusted entrance with café space,” he said. “The addition of central air conditioning has made it one of the most comfortable buildings on campus. The cafeteria has always been a hub for students, and these improvements have made it a fantastic meeting point on campus.”

Meanwhile, Watson Hall underwent a full interior refresh. The project included repainting all walls, new carpet, bathroom upgrades and refurbished common areas. Each student room now features new lighting and ceiling fans.

“The residents certainly appreciated the new fans on those hot days and nights at the start of the year,” Mr Dever said.

Both projects are part of a broader effort by the Division Property Trust to revitalise Avondale’s student-focused facilities and enhance wellbeing and community life across the university.
